「参加のきっかけ」
知り合いの方からのお誘いがきっかけで、このイベントに参加することになりました。僕自身、もともと海外が好きだったこともあり、お話を伺った瞬間から「面白そう！」というワクワクした感情が湧いてきました。5年ぶりの海外旅行だったので期待で胸が膨らむ一方、「ケニア」というテレビでしか見たことのない土地に行くことへの不安や好奇心も入り混じり、「どんなところなんだろう？」とか「安全なのかな？」といった思いもありました。
お祭り当日が近づく中、実は急遽参加できなくなるかもしれないという事態もありました。しかし、多くの方々のサポートのおかげで、無事に参加できることになりました。その時の心境は、まるで「黒ひげ危機一発」をプレイしているようなハラハラドキドキ感でした笑
「感想」
今回参加したお祭りは、今までのどのお祭りよりも最高の体験でした！ボランティアの方々やケニアの皆さんを含め、とにかく全員が「子供のように楽しんでいた」というのが一番しっくりくる表現だと思います。こんなにも無邪気に楽しむ大人たちがいるのかと驚きましたし、その様子から「自分が心から来たいと思って参加した」という強い意志が伝わってきました。
また、参加者の多様性にも感動しました。職業や背景がさまざまな方が集まり、中には「世界一周中にケニアに立ち寄った」という方もいました。お祭りの演目も豊富で、しかもそれをケニアでやるというギャップがまた面白かったです笑 長時間をかけてでも行く価値は十分にあると断言できます！
How I Got Involved
I ended up joining this event after getting an invitation from someone I knew. I’ve always been a big fan of traveling abroad, so the moment I heard about it, I thought, “This sounds awesome!” It had been five years since my last overseas trip, so while I was super excited, I also felt a mix of curiosity and concern about going to Kenya—a place I’d only ever seen on TV. I kept wondering, “What’s it really like?” and “Is it safe?”
As the festival date approached, there was a moment when it looked like I wouldn’t be able to attend after all. But thanks to lots of support from many people, I managed to go in the end. Honestly, it felt like playing a game of “Pop-Up Pirate,” full of suspense and relief!
My Experience
This festival was hands-down the most amazing one I’ve ever been to. The volunteers and the local Kenyans—everyone, really—were having fun with this childlike enthusiasm that took me by surprise. It was incredible to see so many adults enjoying themselves in such a carefree way, and you could really sense that everyone was there because they genuinely wanted to be.
Another highlight was the diversity among the participants. People from all sorts of backgrounds came together, and there was even someone who dropped by Kenya as part of a round-the-world trip. The variety of performances was impressive, and holding them in Kenya of all places created this fantastic contrast that just added to the excitement. I can say without a doubt that making the long journey there is absolutely worth it!
